Fashion realisation 2: residential summer school (16-17 Year Olds)

This course is aimed at developing your pattern cutting and sewing skills. You’ll be introduced to working with the industry standard size 12 womenswear bodice block and learn how to adapt this block for different styles and fit. You’ll then move on to looking at more complicated sewing techniques before using your knowledge to complete a top from a purchased pattern to a professional finish.

Course includes:

  • Investigating the basic core principles in working with a womenswear industry standard size 12 block, including dart manipulation and fit as related to sizing
  • Seam types including French and lapped
  • Edge finishing techniques including bias binding
  • Zip types, including concealed and invisible
  • Garment assembly: pressing and finishing techniques.
  • On completion of this programme you can expect to come away with:
  • Your own fitted block, adapted from standard size 12.
  • Reference file of pattern work involving dart manipulation 
  • Samples of different seams, zip types and finishing techniques
  • Completed basic top

Level:

Intermediate. To fully benefit from this course you should have good sewing and pattern cutting skills equivalent . This course is delivered in English therefore a good level of English is required to make the most of the learning experience.

The courses will be held at Queen Anne's School near Reading which offers fabulous teaching facilities in a dedicated art and design block and extensive leisure amenities including swimming pool, theatre, tennis courts and large playing fields - plus modern accommodation.
Classes will take place between 0930-1700 on weekdays and evenings will comprise communal activities. All tuition board and accommodation is included in the course fee, Transfers to/from school can be arranged at an additional fee. 
There will be a maximum of 15 students per class, however, there will be international students staying at the school which is a fantastic opportunity to mix with young people from across the world.
