Fashion styling and media : residential summer school (for ages 13-15)

Fashion styling & media: residential summer school (for 13-15 year olds)

This residential course will introduce you to the world of fashion via sessions based on the short courses offered at LCF. Tutors are drawn from both academia and industry to offer the best experience, and the two-week course will typically be taught by between two and five teaching staff to further enhance your time with us.

Course overview:
If you're interested in fashion but perhaps not in design, then this two-week hands on intensive fashion media course will introduce you to the exciting worlds of PR, photography, catwalks, fashion journalism, styling and make up-artistry, culminating in the creation of your own photo shoot and style blog. It's perfect if you're a budding celebrity stylist, fashion journalist or fashion PR.

Topics covered include:

  • The different roles of the fashion media: which one is for you?
  • Analysing and writing press releases: selling the dream
  • Planning a fashion event: what's important and how to get the guest list
  • Catwalk reporting and fashion interview techniques
  • Trend spotting and street style writing: who influences and why
  • Creating your own fashion blog
  • The principles and practice of styling: what goes into making a fashion image
  • Editorial make up demos and the chance to practice 'looks'
  • Planning and executing your own fashion shoot (professional photographer provided)
The aim of this course is to give you a taster of different elements of the fashion industry, but with concrete outputs to take away and use as the basis for beginning their fashion career.
On completion of this two-week programme you can expect to come away with:
  • Examples of your writing work, including a catwalk report and fashion news story
  • An online style blog, including your own street style photos
  • A series of images from your own designed and directed photo shoot (starring yourself as a model!)
Level:

Beginners. This course is delivered in English therefore a good level of Engish is required to make the most of the learning experience.

Further information:

The courses will be held at Queen Anne's School near Reading which offers fabulous teaching facilities in a dedicated art and design block and extensive leisure amenities including swimming pool, theatre, tennis courts and large playing fields - plus modern accommodation.
The two-week programme is planned around students arriving on a Sunday and departing on a Saturday, so that they have a full weekend in the middle of their stay for a series of fashion-related excursions including a trip into central London.
Classes will take place between 0930-1700 on weekdays and evenings will comprise communal activities. All tuition, board and accommodation is included in the course fee. Transfers to/from the school can be arranged at an additional fee.
There will be a maximum of 15 students per class, however, there will be international students staying at the school which is a fantastic opportunity to mix with young people from across the world.
