Social Mobility - free Internship programme - for low income backgrounds

The deadline for our Residential Internship Programmes has been extended to 9am on Monday 29th April 2013.

Unfortunately, we have not had any applications from students from your school.  We have extended the deadline for students to apply to these programmes to 29th April 2013.  Please continue to advertise these programmes to eligible students.  All supporting documents, such as teacher reference forms and eligibility forms need must be in by 3rd May 2013.

If your school has had 30%+ students eligible for Free School Meals at any point over the last 3 years - do get in touch with us as this will make your school an SMF target school, which means students just need to have the academic requirements and be first generation of their family to go to university to be eligible to apply.

These programmes are for high-achieving Year 12 students from low-income backgrounds and are completely free of charge: travel, meals, accommodation and a daily allowance are organised and paid for by the SMF.

Successful students will gain a professional mentor, university advice and an action-packed work experience placement this summer with a top employer along with fun social activities, such as a trip to the theatre.

There are 3 programmes which will take place in London:

-          Banking/Finance Programme with global investment bank, J.P. Morgan

-          Government Programme with the Civil Service, including the Foreign and Commonwealth office, Treasury and Home Office

-          Law Programme with global law firm Linklaters

We have contacted your school via post, email and phone to provide you with the following information, all of which is available online by following the links:

·         A guidance note for teachers

·         Copies of our publicity posters (please ignore the original deadline)

o   Law

·         Compliment slips with key information for you to photocopy and hand out to students

·         A short presentation which can be found online here for you to show to the students

Students must apply by 29th April 2013, at www.socialmobility.org.uk.

53% of students supported by the SMF go onto Russell Group universities and we are seeing past SMF students graduate from top universities go onto accept job offers from the firm where we placed them at.  With our help, students from your school can do the same.

We look forward to receiving applications from your students.

Best wishes,

Fiona
