UCL English Summer School

English Year 12 Summer School

The UCL English Department Summer School offers students the chance to sample the variety of modules that make up the undergraduate English degree at UCL, and many other top universities. These modules include literary movements and periods of the past thousand years such as Romantic literature, Victorian literature, and Post-Modernist literature, as well as more thematic discussions, of which possible topics include the supernatural in literature, prison literature, and ostracism and outsiders, among others. For 2013, the Summer School as a whole will explore the idea of Literature and the City, both on paper and in field trips offered in the late afternoons to showcase the connection between works and world. The English Department Summer School modules are tailored to develop transferable skills necessary for university study in any discipline and will also show you specifically how English is studied at university. Other activities will include a tour of UCL and some of its facilities, and the opportunity to ask a panel of graduate students about university life and the English Department. You need only bring to the course your critical thinking skills, your creativity and your interest in English language and literature.
